KNITTING FOR JULIET (ENGLISH VERSION)

A HAPPY END FOR ITALY, CHILE AND TURKEY.

More than 35 young international creatives (from Italy, Russia, Thailand, Israel, England, China, India, Canada, Sweden, Lithuania, Turkey, the USA, Iran and Chile) presented haute couture knitted creations in the first edition of Knitting for Juliet: the only international competition dedicated entirely to every facet of knitwear design.

On February 14, 2015 the Committee – chaired by internationally renowned knitwear designer Kevin Kramp – awarded the first three winners:

Elena Mangeli from Italy won first prize: a scholarship of €24,000 which will allow her to attend an entire 3-year course specialising in knitwear design at Fashion Ground Academy, Verona.

Second place was the Chilean Romy Valderas, who won a scholarship amounting to €16,000 and third place  went to Dorna Gharehol from Turkey who won a scholarship of €8,000, both for the same course.

Elisabetta Negretti from Italy and Abhiijt Roy from India were awarded joint fourth place with a grant of €3,000 each which they too could put  towards the knitwear design course.

The remaining finalists were awarded with a bonus of €1,500 in the hope that this will inspire them to follow this path.

Following the morning presentation, all the finalists were brought together at the Arena Opera Museum (AMO), showcasing their creations  alongside garments donated by well-known fashion brands in a spectacular catwalk show.

Thanks must go to all the sponsors (STOLL, Safil, B !, MARIO FORONI, FOUNDAZIONE ARENA DI VERONA and the AMO MUSEUM ) and to all the institutions  that sponsored the event and who believed in the social educational values of this contest which creates opportunities for young people by putting them in contact with the working environment. Special thanks goes to the department for Youth and Education, the Veneto Region, the Salesian University (IUSVE) and the Consortium of Fashion.

Knitting for Juliet continues its mission in the Birolli Hall – via Macello 17, Verona – where the cream of the finalists’ and participating fashion brands’ creations will be exhibited for one month, where from February 21st  to March 20th, 2015 there will be events, creativity workshops, knitcafés and much more. The official opening will be Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11:00.
